A Trip to the Maryland and the Nation's Capital

Continuing Morgan's tour of the East coast, Beth, Morgan, and the kids drove down to Becky and Mike's house in Frederick, MD. We went to Baltimore, Washington, DC; and spent a day relaxing getting pedicures. Becky and Mike were great hosts/tour guides. Thanks for letting us crash at your home!

Ethan leading the way! (note his map is of the metro system! :-)
Taken at the White House (which Ben decided was "really cool")
There was this huge tree by the Washington Monument that we relaxed by for a while

Taking one of many rests along our walk through DC

The Lincoln Memorial, where Ben was trying to cheer for "America!". We kept trying to tell him this was a quiet place to remember Abraham Lincoln.

Ben and his "superbaaad" (as quoted from a valet parker in DC) sunglasses. :-)

Our pedicure results (The idea of getting pedicures still confuses David)

We made smores in Becky and Mike's firepit in their backyard. Yum!

Mike got Becky a "Buddy". And it is so much fun!

Flash-back-Friday

For almost 10 years, there has been one particular picture I have been looking for as I combed through the several Morey archives of pictures.

This is not intended to suggest there are many family pictures, far from it. Rather our family pictures have been flung to various different hordes as each family member (including me) has ravaged the few surviving family scrap books.

Now after an exhaustive search, and repeatedly annoying each of my way cool sisters, I found the rarest of family pictures. Most people won’t care, but anyone who went with us on the epic story of Dad’s “the sandbox” will instantly appreciate this find…

One unfamiliar with this story might innocently ask themselves a few simple questions…

Why is there a broken down pickup truck full of sand on a flatbed trailer? Or, how big was this sandbox that it needed that much sand? Or, Pat must have found some bargain to get have gotten all that sand. : )

You may particularly note Becky’s way cool pants. : ) ↓

I have to say thanks to my sister Sue who found this little treasure in Seattle, WA. She also gave me a few others that I thought I would post as part this week’s flashback Friday. Thanks Sue : )

I confess, I am not sure why Sue is topless in both pictures. I can say she was the one who gave them to me : ) ↓ ↑

Sue holding Debbie soon after Debbie was born, probably in January 1980. I don't think there are many other pictures (if any) of Debbie this young ↓

Me swinging Libby and Sue. I think we were at the park just down the road from the Church. This was probably taken in 1979. Note my tough guy shirt and my various muscles. ↓

The whole Morey kid clan - Christmas time in 1979. ↓

Sue always had terrific curls : ) Though I know she hated them for a long time. I think this picture was taken at Christmas in 1979. You also may notice how Sue's pants almost blend completely with the plaid colored couch. Only the finest plaids in the 1970s could do that. : ) ↓

Looks like Sue heading off for School. Probably in 1979. I can tell because she isn't smiling ; ) ↓

An Evening at Hamlin Beach

While Dave and Beth had a date night, Pat and Stan took the kids out to Hamlin Beach on Lake Ontario. They played in the sand, slid down slides, skipped stones, and in Ben's case, chased sea gulls. Morgan and Stan documented this evening for us. They stayed until sunset, sang songs during the car ride home, and a worn out bunch of kids fell asleep soon after.

Ben enjoyed chasing the Sea Gulls (click to enlarge the image ...Ben is the small dot among the birds : )

Ben was upset because he couldn't go out as far as Morgan.

Time to go home...

Fifteen Miles on the Erie Canal...

Saturday morning was spent canoeing and kayaking on the Erie canal. Becky and Beth took Morgan, Rachel and Ben canoeing. Afterwards, Becky taught Rachel and Morgan how to kayak. Once Becky, Ben and Beth were packed up and gone, Rachel and Morgan biked down the canal trail with Stan.

Dave and Mike decided to kayak down the canal for a while. Unfortunately, they lost track of where they were on the canal. Oh, and did we mention that their cell phone battery was almost dead? Becky and Beth headed out to try and find them, and we all eventually met up at the Rochester airport Holiday Inn parking lot. :-)

Hanging Around in Rochester

We've been hanging out at Pat and Stan's house for the rest of the week. The kids have been hanging out, playing with Grandma's rockin' bubble machine, and riding bikes with Grandpa.

July 4th - A Night of Fireworks

We decided to spend the 4th of July in Rochester visiting Pat and Stan. Becky and Mike came up from Maryland, and we all had a great time at the fireworks in Brighton. Unfortunately, the Penfield fireworks were held on Saturday, June 30th, and none of us were able to go to those. :-(

Having fun with the cameras

The Skycoasters were playing before the fireworks, so everyone had fun dancing to the music

Ethan was a bit overwhelmed by the whole spectacle, and chose to not watch anything! :-)

Becky and Mike brought up some sparklers from Pennsylvania (don't tell anyone they crossed state lines!)

Judging by Mike's stance, he seems to have flair for this : )
